Happy Birthday

to me..... I celebrated my 40th birthday last Thursday. It was a great day, not only did I take care of myself, but many friends and family made it a great day. My sisters planned a great trip to Portland a few weeks ago and as you all know that was a blast! My Visiting Teachers brought flowers and chocolate yumm!! My girls scouts brought me flowers, balloons, cake and lots of fun! I had lots of calls and well wishes on facebook too! I had crab for dinner. What a nice day it was :)

Bye Bye Birdie

As most of you know, my girls are drama queens! They love Drama. The community in which they go to school (the Brighton/ Commerce city area) has a group that does several musicals a year for both kids and adults. So we figured this would be another opportunity for them to participate and they tried out on Wednesday. Thursday were call backs for both of them. Friday we found out who made it into what roll. Raeann will be playing Mrs. Doris Macafee, and Amanda will be playing Ursula Merkle. I think it is funny that Amanda's character has a surname that is really a part of her ancestry. The girls are thrilled to have a part. For everyone else, your preparation is to set aside July 10, 11, 17 or 18. It will be a great show the cast is awesome and the director couldn't be better!

Bragging rights

Amanda has recently written a poem for New Beginnings that I want to share with every. Enjoy!

We welcome the sun
with a warm hug.

We welcome the moon
just like a new bloom.

Like the stars up above
we shine bright.

But now we have new stars
to welcome and help shine.

Bow your head,
and close your eyes,
and ask Christ to light he night
and help us shine bright.

There are so many
searching for your light.

My Portland Trip

Cory was in town for spring break and the girls were on their spring break too. We had a great time bowling, playing games with friends, family time etc. I got to spend 5 fun filled days with my children and then.....My Sisters, mom, Aunt and Husband surprised me with a trip to Portland for my birthday. Heidi is leaving for Singapore in May so they did it early. It really was a surprise I had no idea. The first day in Portland I got to spend with my nieces. Janell had to work, Heidi was still in Singapore house hunting, so Mom, Aunt Karen and I spend the day with Parrish and Sabrina. What fun cute girls they are. I thought being a mom was great, but being an Aunt is better :) We had a fun day of ponies and coloring, running, tea parties etc. Mostly they played on their own, they really play well by themselves, my kids didn't do that so well. Sabrina is a hugger and would come up to me and say "I want a hug" It was adorable. Parrish and I have a wonderful bond and it was great to renew that. She definitely is "my special red headed friend". Aunt Karen cooked fabulous spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Janell came over after work and we had even more fun playing with the kids. I stayed with Janell at her house and it was nice to have some alone time with her. She and I have always gotten along, so we are able to just enjoy each others company. The next day Janell worked and Heidi and Rob came in early from Singapore (20 hour flight yuck!) We spent the day talking and planning the rest of the weekend. Aunt Karen treated us all to pedicures and a manicure for herself. They had these wonderful massage chairs that we got to sit on while we were having our pedi done! Wowzers that was nice. Heidi also introduced us to Bubble tea! It was a very interesting! Who knows if I will try another one. I am really more of a water girl, but it was fun! Mom and Aunt Karen are hooked on Chai tea now! I also got to see some of downtown Portland which was great! I found my new favorite bookstore there as well. Oh and lest I forget I finally got to see Ikea! Janell and I went late Friday night. It was the coolest! I didn't see much we got there right before closing, and the store is huge, but it was very cool to finally go in and see it. I also saw enough that I knew if we hadn't gotten out of there quick I would have been shipping me stuff :) Day three Janell and I started out alone. Everyone else was at Heidi's and I wanted to see some sights before we went to the beach. Janell and I saw more of downtown Portland, more of the bookstore and a few specialty spots. I think that was my most favorite part of the trip, I like looking through shops like those. We also got yelled at by a street beggar, I followed us several blocks yelling at us. I felt bad for him, but it was really comical too. Thanks Janell for the great time. She also took me to Trader Joes! Oh my goodness, I wish they had one here. I here they are building an Ikea, I just wish we could get Trader Joes too! What a cool Grocery store. I love Portland with the healthier lifestyles and food joints. From there we met up with Heidi, Rob, Parrish, Sabrina, Lucy (the dog), Mom, and Aunt Karen. We started our trek to the beach, by meeting at Burgerville. I love that place, Every restaurant has healthier choices than they offer here. From there on to the outlet malls. It was a lot of fun to see the familiar and the new shops. Janell and Mom gave me money for my birthday, so I got several shirts that Janell and Heidi helped me pick out. That was a really fun sister time, probably my favorite time with my sisters ever. Of course they were spoiling me LOL. From there we went to Heidi's beach house and had Crab and Halibut(?). I had a whole crab to myself. I found myself wishing Brian was there, because he grew up eating them and knows how to get at the meat easier than anyone I have ever seen. It was fun "working" for dinner though, and oh so yummy. We played "hand and foot" a great new card game I had learned and just enjoyed each others company. Heidi and I stayed up far to late talking and catching up. Sunday we slept in, Rob took the girls home so he could have some time with them (he had been gone for a month) and so Heidi could have some girl time with us. We went and saw the chairs that Dad built on the other beach house, went to lunch at the coolest restaurant. They had all windows that face the ocean, so all through lunch we got to watch the waves etc. This is just outside the restaurant. The sun came out and everyone went to the beach for a walk but me. I needed the alone time and was grateful for it. Mom made me my favorite birthday cake (carrot cake) and we just hung out Sunday night. It was very relaxing. Monday we got ready and left for Portland, we got to spend a bit more time with Parrish and Sabrina. Then off to the airport and home. What a fun trip!

I'm behind

I started this blog with idea that I would keep up with our family "journal", so I am late. I am not a very good writer, so I avoid writing if I can :) So if I don't update soon, let me know you are looking for my updates. Thanks Courtney for getting me back on the wagon ;) Spring break was great to have all of my kiddos together. Look for more to follow.....

Glenwood Springs

This is the lodge we stayed at. When we got there..... That is the key..... It was a seven hour trip just to get there!! The snow was horrid. This was a girl scout trip that I thought oh it will be nice to soak in hot water when it is so cold outside. That part was nice, but the roads to and from were not to be desired. This is what we saw when we drove in.. it was so inviting.
The water tasted and smelled gross, but the water was wonderful. We swam for hours in the warm water. It is really something to jump from the diving board with freezing cold feet into warm bath water.

This is a picture of all the girls that we took up. It was a fun trip and I would recommend it to everyone.
